She married (2) FRANKLIN PHELPS Aft. 1900.
Notes for ALICE COLLINS:
Alice Collins
Davis Phelps died at age 60. The informant was LH./L.W.Davenport
of Creswell, NC. The Death Certificate does not indicate whether
her husband is living. Her parents are listed as Emanuel Collins,
born in Washington County, NC and Harriet Jethro, born in
Washington County, NC.
Interestingly, the
Death Certificate is signed by Dr. Dissoway of Plymouth, NC. Dr.
Dissoway died as a result of a gunshot wound inflicted by Alice's
nephew, Ralph Collins. The ensuing trial verdict was that Ralph
Collins shot Dr. Dissoway in self defense.
The 1885 Estate
Records of both John Collins and Emanuel Collins list Alice as an
entitled heir. Joseph W. Davis and wife Alice R. Davis sold
property to Arnet A. Biggs on January 7, 1886. The property is
identified in the deed as being "known as the Emanuel
Collins land". The deed further states "Collins land...Alice
came into possession of by kinship from her father the said
Emanuel Collins, he leaving 8 children and the said Alice R.
Davis being the owner if one eighth part of the said undivided
tract of land lying in the county of Washington, state of North
Carolina....". The land was sold for $25.00. There is no
specification of acreage.
