"You're
invited to enjoy the perfect combination
of relaxation and recreation, of natural
beauty and man-made fun, of breathtaking
mountains and memory-making good times.
You're cordially invited to Gatlinburg,
Tennessee.
Our charming mountain
town is the gateway to America's most
popular playground, The Great Smoky
Mountains National Park. We're a year
'round destination for families and
couples who come again and again, knowing
they'll find something here for everyone.
You'll
find hundreds of miles of hiking trails,
plus hundreds of quaint shops and
galleries. You can stay in gorgeous
chalets high over town, a creek side
campground or one of the many hotels,
motels and B and Bs in between. And you
can enjoy hearty southern cooking in our
local cafes or a delicious gourmet meal
in a fine restaurant. Activities abound,
from golfing, skiing and horseback riding
to family fun attractions including go-karting,
amusement centers and fanciful museums.
Of course, you'll also have 800 square
miles of gorgeous national park right at
your doorstep.
The
romance of winter sparkles in Gatlinburg
like no place else. From the millions of
lights that glow in animated displays
throughout the city to the light that
glows in a couples' eyes, our little
mountain town truly makes the winter
bright. Gatlinburg's Smoky Mountain
Lights was named the South's number one
festival when it first appeared. Its
sixth season, stretching from November
through February, promises to be the best
ever, with over two million lights in
moving displays that can be as much as
sixty feet high. You'll see everything
from giant toy soldiers to bavarian
cuckoo clocks and the now famous "Gatlinbear."
It's a one-of-a-kind event for the entire
family.
Of
course, as the unofficial Honeymoon
Capitol of the South, Gatlinburg also
holds a special place in the hearts of
millions of couples. You can come to
renew your vows in a rustic wedding
chapel or simply get away from it all in
a cozy mountain hideaway with a private
fireplace and jacuzzi.
The
Cherokee people called this the "Place
of the Blue Smoke," for the lovely
bluish mist from which the mountain tops
rise. Today, millions of visitors know it
as one of our greatest natural treasures,
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The park's 800 square miles are home to
more species of plants than any other
area on the North American continent, as
well as over 50 species of mammals,
including frequently seen black bears.
Its mountains are the highest in the
Appalachian range. And its possibilities
for recreation and inspiration seem
endless.
You
can explore the gorgeous forests,
waterfalls and soaring vistas via more
than 900 miles of hiking trails. You can
bike or ride horseback or even go lazily
tubing down a mountain stream. You can
fish for trout (for information on
licenses, please request our Trout
Fishing brochure by calling 1-423-436-4558).
You can picnic or camp or drive to one of
the many historic sites preserving
pioneer structures dating back to the
1840s.
After
all, you'll be right in the heart of
everything the Smokies have to offer.
You'll be in Gatlinburg."
