Located halfway between Dallas and Memphis on Interstate 30, Hope, Arkansas is a world-class southern community in the Texarkana metropolitan area. Impressive business advantages and a quality family-oriented lifestyle have made Hope one of the top jobs-growth communities in the entire 4-state region.
To believe in a place called Hope, is to believe in progress, growth, diversification, success, deep-rooted values, and hard-working people.
The Annual Hope Watermelon Festival is set for in August at Hope’s Fair Park. The festival is expected to draw 50,000 people over the four-day period. Over 200 arts & crafts booths will be in place and there will be a variety of music presented over a 4 day period including country, blues, southern gospel, western swing, bluegrass and rock.
The festival will feature many of the time-honored events which have become so popular including seed-spitting, watermelon eating and other melon-related events. Also, the festival will feature a melon auction on Saturday, August 10th which will allow those bidding the chance to buy one of the big melons featured at the festival.
There are many other events set for this year’s festival. These include the Kiwanis ClubChicken Supper, Lions Club Fish Fry, Watermelon Olympics, a bass tournament on Lake Millwood sponsored by the Tri-County Bass Club, a baseball/sports card show, and the 5K run. Other events will include an arm-wrestling contest, an antique engine show sponsored by the Rusty Wheels Antique Engine Club, and a motorcycle show for motorcycles sponsored by the
ABATE motorcycle group. An antique car show is also planned. For information, contact the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce.
