This is the email I received from Alecia Cahoon Guillette and put the above chart together.
Hello,
My name is Alecia Cahoon Guillette and e-mail is
aleciamissmaggie@aol.com.
This is a very interesting site and I am know there are many who
belong to
this genealogy of Spruills. My family has an interesting
background and I
only found out in July 2002 when my father died how entwined we
really are!!
(Scary)! Here is what I know . . . Father's side:
Great Grandparents: Wiggins Spruill of NC, married Sally Craddock
of
Creswell.
George Spruill married Polly Clifton. All of NC, but not sure of
the towns,
probably Creswell, Cherry and/or Roper.
(My grandmother) Spruill/Craddock's daughter, Ella Jane Spruill,
was born
1878 in Creswell. Died Nov. 2 or 3, 1918 in Roper, NC.
(My grandfather) Spruill/Clifton's son, James Thomas Spruill, was
born 1878
in Cherry and died Dec. 1963 in Roper. He was married four times
and father
18 or 19 children only 10 who lived.
James Thomas and Ella Jane had 2
children, Madeline, born Sept. 28, 1916 and my father, Elton
Leroy, born Nov.
2, 1918. My grandmother, Ella Jane, died in childbirth when my he
was born.
Madeline moved to Annapolis, Md. in 1939 and died there Sept. 25,
1988. She
married Channing Homer Davis and they had 2 sons: Wayne Hamilton
Davis,
April 19 1941, still living and Larry Homer Davis, born Dec. 1,
1942 and died
Nov. 18, 1999 all in Annapolis, MD.
Elton Leroy, my dad, was adopted by Cary Joseph and Annie Sawyer
Cahoon of
Columbia, NC when he was 3 or 4 years old. His name was changed
to Leroy
Spruill Cahoon.
Now starts the interesting part . . . Leroy married Elizabeth
Gertrude
Spruill July 10, 1937. Her father was Robert Leslie Spruill born
Nov., 1898
and died Feb. 1963. His parents were Cladius Spruill and Mary
Alice Davenport
Spruill from Washington County, probably Roper/Creswell.
He married Margaret Elizabeth Griffin of Swan Quarter in 1918.
She was born July 25, 1900 and
died May 24, 1988. They had 9 children, 6 which lived to be grown
and 4 still
living.
I have always known I was "double Spruill", but didn't
know until Daddy died
in July that my real grandmother, Ella Jane, was a Spruill as
well. I have
always known too, that Dad was adopted and even knew one of his
half-brothers
and his family quite well, but I never knew anything else about
his family. I
met a couple of them once or twice but that was all. I don't
think he knew
his mother was a Spruill before she was married either, because
as he got
older he would talk about everybody knew and what relation they
had in his
live or to each other.
