This letter is address to Mrs. John D. Swain, Plymouth, N. H. from
Chas., postmarked New Haven, Conn., dated Oct 3, 1916.
194 Orange St.
Dear Edith
? my hurry to get ready to go to Ashland I did not tell you half what I wanted to. I did have such a good time the Country was all new to me and one can see it so much better walking through it it seems to bring us closer to nature. Oh those gloryous mountains I can see them now and always will. But best of all was being with you and John and the good things to eat tell John I put on 3 pounds. good don't you think.
When I took the train at Ashland it poured and it was so dark I was home sick all he way back and haven't quite got over it yet, I begin to realize I am growing old and it makes me feel very badly to think we do not see one another more often you know I don't say much but it hurts just the same.
I hope you will make up your mind to come down later on. Anyway go some where have your eyes attended to. You should do this anyway.
Mrs. ? was more than pleased with the bag and the flowers I think you will get a letter from her.
I had the pictures printed and I will send them to you some time tomorrow. In one of them look out for John taking a shower bath you see I came blame near getting the mountains with your shot gun and a fun? of the pictures are fine. The man whom printed them did not have a book on time exposures I will see if I can find one some where and send you later on. Select the ones you want and I will have more printed. The fellow who was doing my work was taken sick last Thursday. So I guess they was glad to see me back. It was rather hard to start in this morning and I am some tired tonight. I suppose I will get used to it after a little.
Well I shall have something to think about all winter but I don't like to think of you back so far from any thing and all your friends. Now is the time I wish I had a lot of money so I could do something to help. I hope I did not tire you all out cooking so much but it sure was good. With love to you both,
Chas.
