Letters written by Swain

This letter is address to Mrs.  John D. Swain, 769 Main St., Worchester, Mass. (The Standish) from Chas., postmarked New Haven, Conn., dated Jun 22, 1914.

194 Orange St.

Dear Edith,

I  have been thinking of he letter Mr. Swain sent you and I don't see how anyone could refuse help who asked it in the way you did.  I can see as you say it is not J/T? S. but someone back of him and I think the man is between two ?.  and I am sorry for him but he should be a man and face some of the things he trys to dodge.  If it has come to where John can't hear you as he should and you don't know what he will do don't stay  then go away and I will help you all I can.  Oh how I wish John would stop this he is only ? him and draging the rest of us with him does he think of this how he is making all of us suffer.  Do you suppose it would do any good for me to see him and have a talk with him.  If I thought it would I would do it.  It would be the hardest thing I ever did in my life but I would for his sake and yours.  Have you had a talk with him yet about the insurance.  I have known about this policy for a good many years.  Mr. Swain told me about and said at the time he did it so if anything happened to John you would have something to lean on.  Last summer he told me about John and the way things were going.  He to me you had done everything you could and that you had made him a good wife.  There is something back of all this I can't understand.  I can't believe Mr. Swain would do these things if he did not have someone back of him to influence him.  Perhaps to keep peace he don't ? do anything else.

Well I am sorry for you more than I can tell and it keeps me on the razer edge all the time.  I can't stop thinking.  It is a pity you can't have some comfort the rest of your life.

I wrote to Charlie Hunt about the money and ? him on Aunt ? board.  I paid yours the ? time and will again if you want me to or you can drop it if you think you can't do it any longer.  CK?  tells me Aunt May has had a shock and can't use her right side and can't talk and Mrs. Stevens has a nurse for her.  He says she has gone up on the price from 4.50 to 5.00 I think by what he says he rather expect that we will help out on this I can't do it with what I get now and shall tell him so.  Some of the rest of them can do it better than I or you.  Don't give up the Policy until you find out what they want to do.

I am all right and working every day and it would be a great comfort to me if I could think of the same way.  I am sorry you have been sick with all the rest.  Keep me posted for I shall be anxious to know.

With love

Chas.
