Sunday Night
Dear Edith,
I received your long letter and I was disappointed as the devil to think John has broke over again it seems strange to me that he can't control himself to let the stuff alone. There is surely something wrong in him somewhere or he would let it alone. I wonder if he ever thinks what the end will be if he keeps it up. I don't suppose he cares. Well I'm blame sorry for you and I know this doesn't do any good much. I don't know what to get you for Christmas so I'm sending you a little money so you can get something you may want. I wish it were more but am not saving much just now on three days per week. They say business is picking up but it's not so with us and it is growing worse with us we don't even get any mail orders this part of it I have never seen before.
Well I suppose it can't be helped but what I fear if it keeps up it will throw this country into something they don't want. We have to many milion ads? for one thing and a good many dam fools in Washington who don't improve things a bit. Last week I went up to Winsted to have my teeth looked over stayed over night with Dr. Prmost?. I had some time before he could do the work so I went up to see Charlie Hunt. He says he is well but is very def and not any to strong on his legs. Seemed glad to see me and had dinner with him. He told me his housekeeper was a fine cook and she is. Sally comes to see him nearly every day.
He always asks how old I am. He says he always thinks of me as a little boy. He had some old pictures and one of them was Mary in the plad dress I think you have one.
I went up to Norfolk to see the Dr. Mrs. Hamant has been in Hartford Hospital for three weeks had a operation some kind of a growth in one breast. She is home again and is coming out all right they think.
I saw her and she looks good to me.
I am sending you two slippings taken from the Winsted paper I saw the Clarks. Also the Mrs is not very well and Mary is not much better.
I did not go to Norfolk for Thanksgiving and am not going up for Christmas. I have mad an invitation out for Christmas dinner if It did not cost so much I would come to see you for that day. I'm not doing much for any one this year.
Have you decided to put oil in the range. I know of quite a few who have done this and they like it very much.
It don't seem much like Christmas with no snow perhaps we will get some before the 25th but I shan't cry if we don't.
Your package came this p.m. Sunday. I did not want you to send me a thing this year. Anyway I will keep it and open Friday.
Write when you can.
Love to you both,
Charlie
