Obituary published in The Hammond Vindicator: 2/3/1950 BARBER, LELAND Leland Barber, 30, died Thursday while driving in his car between Robert and Cooper's School, a few miles east of Hammond. The car collided with a bridge and he was struck in the head by a plank. Barber was a native of Plymouth, N.C., but had lived at Robert for several years. He was married to the former Johnny Oschner, daughter of a former police juror from the 8th Ward. Besides his wife he leaves a small son. Funeral services were held at Thomas Funeral Home; the body was sent to his native home. [From the 2/10/1950 edition: his son is 28 month old, Jack Daniel Leland.]
