World War II Staff Sergeant and Tank Commander in the Army. He was slightly wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts. He passed away in 1997 from cancer.
Spruill, Lowel Lynn father of Marion Sue World War II My dad fought in WW II. His name was Lowel Lynn Spruiell. He was a Capt. and fought on the German front, receiving a Bronze Star in France and a Purple Heart in Germany.

Returned to USA June, 1919. Mustered out at Camp Lee, Va. June, 1919.

Sergt., Inf., Co. I, 30th Div., 119th Regt. Born in Chowan County; son of R. E. Spruill and Mrs. E. Spruill. Husband of Mrs. Mattie Spruill. Entered service June 19, 1916, at Edenton, N.C., and sent to Camp Glenn, N.C., transferred to Camp Greene, from there to Camp Sevier, S. C. Sailed for Calais, France, May 28, 1918. Promoted to rank of Sergt. 1917. Fought at Flanders. Gassed at Ypres, Belgium, Aug. 24, 1918. Served on Mexican border six months. Mustered out at Camp Lee, Va., March 8, 1919.

Spruill, Thomas Jeptha submitted by Carol Toyama Civil War Enlisted at Pickens County and served until paroled at Elmira, NY at the end of the war. He held the rank of Private in Co. C, 41st Reg't AL Infantry. Captured at Petersburg, VA, on June 15, 1864 & confined June 16, 1864 at Bermuda Hundred, VA. Received at Elmira, NY on July 12, 1864 & released June 16, 1865. Signed an oath of allegiance to the US at Elmira, NY on June 16, 1865.

Spruill, Thomas R  World War II Tec 4, US Army, WWII - b. Oct 6, 1909 d. June 4, 1972 he is buried in Veteran's Plot in Elizabeth City, NC.
Spruill, Wiggins - great great grandfather of Ron Spruill Civil War Fought in the Civil War. He enlisted on 27 JUL 1862 with Company C 1st NC US Vols.(Union) and served at New Bern, NC where he was discharged on 27 JUN 1865. He is the father of David A. Spruill (my Great Grandfather), Thompson Spruill and Sarah Francis Ambrose nee Spruill

30th Alabama Infantry, Company H.  Enlisted
3/1862, honorable discharged 5/18/1865.  Fought at Vicksburg, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta, Nashville.  Ended the war at Greensboro, NC.

He is the father of Ruth Alleen Spruill Cook
and Larry Eugene Spruill (deceased).

PFC (Infantry, U.S. Army) Allen Spruill,
did basic training (4/3/44-8/3/44), at Ft.
McClellan, AL. On September 7, 1944,
he was shipped to France where he served
in the infantry as a flame thrower and rifleman.

On 11/14/44 he was wounded in Rhineland,
FR. A sniper's bullet shot him through the head.
The bullet entered the left side of his mouth and
exited behind his right ear. The wound left one
side of his face paralized and deaf in one ear.
He received the purple heart and the gold star.
He was in he hospital 8 months and was discharged Sep. 19, 1945.

Vietnam War

Larry served in the U.S. Navy from Sep. 27, 1967 to Dec. 27, 1969. He did basic training in San Diego, CA and served on the USS Oak Hill. He did three tours of duty in Vietnam. He also was in Okinawa, and Japan. Mr. Spruill operated a small navy vessel transporting marines to the shore of Vietnam.
