I have found another James Franklin NEWBERRY he is the ninth child of James Swain NEWBERRY and the third child of his second wife Nancy FREEMAN. The other
James Franklin NEWBERRY I sent you awhile ago was a nephew to this James. This
one was born 24 Apr 1836 in Washington County, North Carolina, moved with the family in
1839 or 1840 to Noah Community, Cherokee County, AL, d: between 1874 and 1880 in Cherokee
County, m: 1856 to Margaret Elizabeth

The following account of the disappearance of James is from his
great-great-grandson, James Sewell NAUGHER, who with the help of Hazel Stinson
GROSS, did the primary research on these families. "One day between 1874 and
1880,he got his young son, George Lawrence NEWBERRY, on a horse with him and
gallop back and forth on the country road near his home.A neighbor spotted the
strange behavior and realized the danger, so he ran out into the road and
flagged James down and asked him what was wrong. He could not get any straight
answers from James, who was talking real crazy. The neighbor managed to get the
frightened boy off the horse and James galloped on down the road. His horse was
found several miles away, near Blue Pond, a small natural lake between Leesburg
and Round Mountain. He was never seen again.
James and Margaret had seven
children:
