Located on the Gulf of Mexico and within view of many of the gulf's barrier islands, you'll find Pascagoula. Only 41 miles west of Mobile, AL, and 97 miles east of New Orleans, Louisiana, Pascagoula is easily accessed by Interstate 10. A semi-tropical climate with an average temperature of 68.5 degrees Fahrenheit and an annual rainfall of 71.58 inches contributes to the lush green surroundings and abundance of seafood. With the Mississippi Sound and a number of rivers and waterways so close, water sports and fishing are year-round activities. Pascagoula is an international deep-water port. This provides an ideal base for foreign trade, shipbuilding and the newest pride of the U.S. Navy, Naval Station Pascagoula. Off Pascagoula's beautiful coastline is the Mississippi Sound and the Gulf of Mexico, one of the world's most abundant sources of shrimp, redfish, oysters, crabs, crawfish, and many other seafood delicacies.

Jackson County, of which Pascagoula is the county seat, covers 731 square miles. 72% of this acreage consists of commercial forests which support the paper industry of the area. The Gulf Islands National Seashore and Desoto National Forest are nationally recognized parks and historic landmarks.

Transportation available in the Jackson County area consists of the Jackson County Airport in Pascagoula, the Trent Lott International Airport in Moss Point, and the Ocean Springs Airport in Ocean Springs. Major highways running through Jackson County are MS 63, US 90, and Interstate 10.

The 415-bed Singing River Hospital has over 75 physicians and is located on Highway 90 in Pascagoula. It features state-of-the-art equipment and has the only civilian neurosurgical intensive care unit on the Mississippi Coast.

The total population of Jackson County is 115,243. Manufacturing industries comprise the major sources of employment in the area. Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of Litton Industries, which produces Naval ships for U.S. and international fleets employs 15,044. Chevron U.S.A. Products Co., a major producer of Petroleum fuels, employs 1,130. Other major manufacturers of the area include the International Paper Co., Moss Point Marine, Inc., and Gulf City Seafood's, Inc. In 1992 Pascagoula ranked as the 5th largest port for commercial fishery landings in the United States.
