"Had been looking over your website and found some interesting pictures. The one of Walter J. Spruill standing by the model T ford is my Dad and was taken in 1918 at the Spruill home place in the Mackeys (NC) area. On Dec 29,1918 my mom and Dad Walter ran away from home in that Model T down to the Old Bay Post area and was married by a Justice of the Peace. Your, (Vergie Barber DeAntonio) grand father (Fernando) Cortes (Spruill) went along and witnessed that my mom was 18 years old when she in fact would not have been but 15 on Jan 9, the next month. I recall my mom telling me that Dad and Cortes were friends. I have a copy of the certificate they all signed. That is my mom and dad “Velna &Walter in the other picture standing on the home place farm. The photo of Ed Spruill at the fish house is my Grand Dad on the Mackeys Creek. I have lots of old pictures of Mackeys , other areas, Spruill, and things in my collection. The two books from Wash . County must be where you got those from and I think there are more stories and pics I have of them. Also, Jim Arnold, father of the preacher Dave was brother to my Great Grand mother Millie Ann."
